President-elect and Joint Secretary/Treasurer
KARACHI: Pakistan Association
of Medical Editors (PAME) organized its elections recently. All the members
who wanted to contest for various posts were asked to send in their
nomination papers duly proposed and seconded by PAME members in good
standing. The last date for receipt of nomination papers was July 9, 2011.
Scrutiny of the nomination papers as per election schedule was held on July
13, 2011. According to a press release issued by Prof. Nazeer Khan, Editor
Journal of Dow University of Health Sciences who was in-charge of elections,
since there was no more than one nomination for the various posts which were
being contested, the following have been declared as elected unopposed for a
two year term 2011-2012:
1. President: Dr. Akhtar Sherin, Editor KUST Medical Journal from Kohat,
Khyber PK
2. President-elect: Dr. Fatema Jawad, Chief Editor Journal of Pakistan
Medical Association (JPMA) Karachi
3. General Secretary: Dr. Jamshed Akhtar, Editor Journal of College of
Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan and Journal of Surgery Pakistan. Karachi
4. Joint Secretary/Treasurer: Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid, Managing Editor,
Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences, Karachi.
Those who have been elected to the Executive Committee are Col. Aqeel Safdar,
Editor, Pakistan Armed Forces Medical Journal. Rawalpindi and Prof. Ijaz
Hussain, Editor, Journal of Pakistan Association of Dermatologists, Lahore.
Prof. Maj. Gen. (Retd) Mohammad Aslam, Editor Pak J of Physiology, is the Ex-
Officio member. No nominations were received for the remaining two posts of
Executive Committee. After discussions among themselves the newly elected
executive has nominated Dr. Muhammad Irfan, Associate Editor, Journal of
Pakistan Psychiatric Society who is also Managing Editor, Journal of
Postgraduate Medical Institute, Peshawar. Khyber PK as one of the members. The other vacant
post will be filled later from one of the Editors from Punjab. PAME also
intends to nominate coordinators for organizing Workshops and other academic
activities in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Rawalpindi-Islamabad shortly.
