Dr. Fatema Jawad takes over
as President of PAME
LAHORE: Dr. Fatema Jawad Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Pakistan Medical
Association (JPMA) took over as the next President of Pakistan Association
of Medical Editors (PAME) for a two years term i.e. 2014-2016 at the
general body meeting of PAME held during the just concluded second
national conference of PAME held at UHS Lahore. Prof. Nasir Khokhar Editor
of Rawal Medical Journal and an eminent gastroenterologist from Islamabad
was also elected as President-elect.

Other office bearers who were all elected unopposed included Dr.Jamshed Akhtar Editor of Journal of College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan as General Secretary, Mr.Shaukat Ali Jawaid Managing Editor of Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences as Joint Secretary/Treasurer. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Editor Journal of Postgraduate Medical Institute from Peshawar was re-elected as Member of the Executive Committee. The outgoing President of PAME Dr. Akhtar Sherin acted as the Election Commissioner.

After discussion in the general body
meeting the vacant posts of Executive Committee were filled from other
provinces. Dr. Mohammad Anwar Chaudhry Editor of Pakistan Journal of
Neurology and Neurosurgery from Lahore was elected to represent Punjab,
Prof. Muhammad Ayub was elected to represent Azad Kashmir, Prof.Anwar
Siddiqui from AKU will represent Sindh province. Prof. Umar Ali Khan
Editor Isra University of Medical Journal from Islamabad was also selected
as member of the Executive Committee.
The idea of forming a Board of Trustees consisting of three to five senior
members to benefit from their experience and oversee the functioning of
PAME was put forward by the outgoing President Dr. Akhtar Sherin. It was
suggested that its Terms of Reference should be prepared and then
presented to the Executive Committee and general membership for approval.
Mr. Shaukat Ali Jawaid presented accounts of the association and pointed
out that it has been audited till December 30th 2012 while the remaining
period accounts will be audited soon. The meeting was chaired by Dr.
Akhtar Sherin along with Dr. Jamshed Akhtar who conducted the meeting and
it was very well attended by the members.
